Hydrology and location of original villages

Before the creation of Chandigarh, the local villages of the northern periphery were located right at the edge of the Shivalik Hills, or upstream in the river valleys on the meander terraces of the intermittent rivers. In this way, the agricultural and animal husbandry economies of these villages were sustained in sympathy with the core ecological cycles of the area.
